Our Story

The life behind the foundation.

IN HER WORDS

Our greatest blessing entered this world on November 20, 1991, bringing immeasurable joy to our family. From the moment we brought that beautiful, curly-haired baby home, our hearts were full. He was a precious gift from God, and every milestone in his life became a treasured memory.

Those who knew Deacon — affectionately called "Deek" by family and friends — knew he was passionate from the very beginning. Even as an infant, he had a determined spirit. If he wanted something, everyone knew it! He was famous for letting us — and sometimes even the neighbors — know when he was hungry or impatient. Looking back now, those moments make us smile.

Like many grandparents, his Mom-Mom adored him, and between his father, his grandmother, and me, Deek had us all wrapped around his little fingers. Watching him grow from a curious little boy into a compassionate young man was one of life's greatest blessings.

The legacy of Deacon A.L. Stewart

As he matured, so did his heart for others. Deacon possessed a rare gift: when he saw a need, he didn't stop to ask who a person was or whether they deserved help. He simply stepped in and served. Whether encouraging a child, helping a friend, or caring for an elderly resident, he gave his time, his strength, and his heart without hesitation.

At just 33 years old, Deacon had found a career that perfectly reflected who he was. As a director at a nursing home, he was deeply loved by the residents and respected by his colleagues. He treated every person with dignity, compassion, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone whose life he touched.

Although his time with us was far too short, his legacy continues.

The Deacon Stewart Foundation was established to carry forward the servant's heart that defined his life. Inspired by Deacon's love for both young people and older adults, our mission is to invest in the lives of youth through athletics, mentorship, leadership development, and safe fitness education, while also serving seniors through outreach, compassion, and practical support.

We believe every young person deserves opportunities to build confidence, character, and purpose. We also believe every older adult deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and love. By serving these two generations, we honor the people Deacon cared about most.

As we grow, we invite you to become part of this mission. Whether through volunteering, partnering with us, or making a financial contribution, you can help ensure that Deacon's legacy continues to inspire hope and transform lives.

Together, we are doing more than remembering Deacon — we are continuing his work.

"When he saw a need, he didn't stop to ask who a person was. He simply stepped in and served."
